This week at a party, Bennett got his first taste of unrestrained dog. Although he lives with two dogs, neither one has dared lick his face because Bennett’s parents have set boundaries for how the dogs can interact with the baby. But our friend’s dog Lalo just took to the baby, hopped up on a chair, and began to lick him with wild affection. No boundaries, just a dog’s interest in the smell of a new creature. It happened so fast that it was hard to get all the cameras out, but Lalo’s owner Jean got some shots.
Bennett was perplexed. That look on his face proved that he hadn’t a clue what was going on, and had no means to stop it either. Well, not helpless. Bennett’s mom and dad’s dogs don’t venture near him when he is crying. They slip underneath a table and sit quietly until his tantrum passes.
